This is a Bible study devotional book. That is, each devotional begins with a brief text placed in the BBSM outline form to show the literary structure. The sentence structure of biblical writers was most often a work of art along with the purpose of sharing a message. A great deal of pride and consideration went into the forming of sentences with carefully chosen words making it memorable to those speaking that language. In the Broyles Bible Study Method (BBSM) you begin to see the thought processes of the writers as they delivered a message with a type of rhythm and flow that was often read to its hearers who needed to remember it because so many did not read. The ingenious idea of the Psalm writers was to use this rhythm and flow to be memorized and sung! Another feature of these devotionals is consideration of the historical setting. While often knowledge is not always available in the exact context, at least the context within the scripture unit itself can be considered. Better understanding of the historical setting and the writing features of the author produces more from the text. Almost always the historical setting shines light upon the understanding of the biblical text.
