This devotional study follows the story of Genesis beginning with God’s work and purpose in creation and his work with those he created after they sinned, to call them back into the life he offered in the beginning. The journey reveals the wickedness of men and the grace and patience of God working with them to discover him and the life he planned for them. By following this story line, readers can see themselves dealing with similar struggles of life and recognize the patience of God working with ignorance, willful sin, and rejection of his purpose of bringing them to the life he offers. Throughout the Old Testament men were mostly ignorant of God’s will on matters such as marriage. They took multiple wives causing hatred, division, and wars to this very day. Men struggled with God’s command to Adam and Eve to “multiply and fill the earth and subdue it,” meaning specifically: “Build a godly family for me on earth.” This is what God wanted from Adam and Eve and all those born after them. (Malachi 2:15) This message prevails to the end of Genesis! Men were mostly in charge of everything or at least claimed to be. All the while, God was trying to get them to allow him to take charge of their lives so he could lead them into the life he offered.
