Psalm 119 is an acrostic psalm in a meditative mood including prayers, exclamations, personal experiences and commitments encompassing ten terms used as synonyms to represent the word of God. Most verses are built around a different word which is a synonym for the word of God. Other terms may also represent God’s word in practice. The original Hebrew rhymes. The poet sings God’s praises under various challenging circumstances: persecution, false accusation, temptation, doubt and always with exuberance for God’s word. His writing style consists primarily of couplets represented in most verses. Nearly every verse has one term for “God’s Word.” It is written mostly in a style of conversational prayer with an understanding that God’s children need to pray without ceasing. His prayer pattern is rather fearless as he does not hold back his feelings or fears or assessment of his desire to know God and be faithful to him as his only hope!
