The over 1700 sins this study reveals in the N.T. pictures the constant struggle the churches were having to overcome them. Sins are identified, defined with results, and God’s solution is made clear. The church teaches by what she does, ignores, and tolerates. As young ones in churches watch what the church members do, they determine what is important, acceptable, and what their priorities should be if they become Christians. The disciples following Jesus had not learned a full definition of sin! They thought adultery was only a physical act. Jesus taught that lusting after someone, is adultery in the heart! (Matt. 5:28) Church leaders have a two-fold challenge. First to overcome sin themselves. Second to help the church overcome sin, remembering God holds them accountable for the souls of their people. (Hebrews 13:17; Ezekiel 33:7-11; 17:20) Today serious a call for repentance and change is absent from much preaching and worship emphasis. Many churches are dismissing serious invitation times for repentance and renewal with God.
