God’s first will and purpose for creation was to build himself an eternal family. His will has never changed. In creating the earth, God intended to entrust it all to man and his management. God always wanted to share all he is and has made with man. Yet, mankind has always been plagued with self-centeredness since the first sin. The focus has been on what man wants and how to get it as quickly as possible. Only a personal encounter with Jesus Christ in repentance of sin and acceptance of him as one’s personal authority for life and all truth will change the selfishness of man. Modern man tends to present God’s offer of salvation as what one “gets” with the ultimate reward being heaven which may still imply that heaven is all about oneself! Most of the songs about heaven are more about what one gets, making it about self, than about the accomplishment of God’s will in the lives of those who are saved and the partnership with him in building his eternal family. Modern conversions are too often not leading church members to get personally involved in leading others to salvation in Christ as a life focus and understanding of the will of the heavenly Father. Little emphasis is made on a husband-and-wife partnership in rearing godly children as their first mission field for Christ. This is a major reason Paul warned about a believer marrying a non-believer. (II Cor. 6:14-18) Without specifically planned training from the church backed up by evangelistic preaching and church member practice that supports it, new believers are likely to accept Christ only for what they can get. Heaven can so easily become about self. Satan convinces man of this. The church today must take responsibility for specific discipleship training and not assume that if converts participate in all the religious programs, they will lead others to Christ and his eternal home! With 380,000 church groups in America today claiming to be Christian, we live in an evil generation and a nation becoming more wicked every day.
