This research is a systematic theological work considering passages that reveal multiple aspects of “a hard heart toward God.” It is systematic in that it follows texts in chronological order through the Bible. It is theological in that it observes a holistic approach to considering the full biblical perspective of defining a hard heart, the cause, the effects and the cure of it. While this message is prevalent throughout the whole scripture, examination of forty-five or more texts will cement enough understanding to recognize its presence wherever it is found. Consistent studies in translation help cement the understanding of these scriptures in the mind and intent of the writers. This study leads to a specific definition of “a hard heart” toward God as it remains a major theological and spiritual issue today. God’s word nor man’s resistance has changed. While people are more educated and gifted in expressing themselves in defensive ways, the truth remains the truth. The choices for mankind are the same as they were for Adam and Eve. Will we listen to God and trust him enough to follow his leading to the life he offers?
