This study is for individuals who are concerned about “defining and doing” the will of God personally and sharing in partnership with his family. (Matthew 7:21;12:50; Mk. 12:46-50; Luke 22:42, John. 4:34) Over one hundred scripture texts will be considered with an honest assessment of what is happening in many churches today. Upon consideration of the present situation, possible factors in a plan of action and improvement will be offered for consideration under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We are tempted to oversimplify and generalize our definition of God’s will as doing what is good or right or what pleases God. We could speak about God’s will as it is related to anything right or wrong. However, this study focuses primarily on “God’s will that we are to accomplish as the purpose of every Christian’s life. Over one hundred scripture passages are examined to strive to clarify God’s will as specifically what we are to do and accomplish in a Christian life. For the longest time, churches have not seriously searched God’s Word to clarify his teaching about what we are to accomplish. Religious activities have been substituted for the real thing. Secondary goals have been substituted for what God really wants us to accomplish. With this limited and rather generic definition, most of our effort and energy is focused on trying to be good and do the right things to please God. However, in this wicked world as defined by Christ, we will battle with sin until our last breath. We cannot be good enough to earn our salvation or be worthy. Even Christ said, “No one is good but God alone.” (Mark 10:18) We are tempted to define the “good ones” as those who are active in religion. They go to church services and activities, give financially, help with the programs, and do not demand evaluation and accountability of the religious leaders or the programs. Activities and programs continue for centuries absorbing the time, energy, and resources of men without bringing many to salvation in Christ! At the same time, a nation such as America grows more wicked to the core every year especially seen in the government and antiChristian movements. Thus, defining the will of God simply by trying to be a good person has not done much for America! We must be compelled to find a clearer productive understanding of God’s will for individuals and his church that makes a visible difference in the world starting in America! While the will of God is fluid relating to every moment of our lives which needs to be under the leadership of the Holy Spirit of Jesus dwelling within us, this study moves to the result and accomplishment of God’s will in what we are to make our focus and achieve to honor him. Otherwise, the church may focus on always working to improve our “goodness” alone rather than getting done what God saves us to accomplish!
