Of all the Bible teacher training that has been done, should we not have been astonished and excited by concentrating more on the teaching and teaching methods of Jesus? [What he taught and how he taught it to others] Is not the most important thing in the Bible what Jesus taught in word and deed? The crowds of his day called him Rabbi because he taught with power and authority. At the conclusion of his teaching known as the Sermon on the Mount, “The crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.” (Matthew 7:28-29) The people at large did not recognize this authority in the teaching of the scribes. They were bored with the teaching of the scribes, and it did not help them find the fulfillment in God which they needed. The teaching of Jesus was both in words and deeds. They compared his teaching with that of the scribes and concluded that the scribes did not have his authority. Should not churches be training teachers more in the actual teachings of Jesus and his teaching methods? This study is an examination of the teaching methods of Jesus and identifying how often he used these methods consistently and why. The premise is that the church today should be following not only the teachings of Jesus but also his teaching methods to engage others in discovery of who he is and the life he offers.
